Platinum Membership

Upgrading to Platinum membership

Each day we will assess your membership for an upgrade based on the number of Status Credits earned and Eligible Sectors* flown in the previous 12 months. As soon as your Status Credit balance reaches 1,000 and you have flown 8 Eligible Sectors* you will automatically upgrade to Platinum membership.

Maintaining Platinum membership

To maintain Platinum membership, you need to earn 800 Status Credits and fly 8 Eligible Sectors* within your 12 month benefit period.

Priority Phone Service

Seating Preferences
  • Select and store your seating preference in your Velocity account^.

^We will apply your preference wherever possible with Virgin Australia. Best efforts will be taken to allocate your seat preference to your booking.

Advanced Seat Selection
  • Select a seat through your preferred booking channel from 14 days prior to your departure.*

*Available when you book and fly on a Virgin Australia operated flight. If you do not request a seat in advance, and you have a stored a seat preference in your Velocity Frequent Flyer profile, your seat will be allocated based on your preference from remaining available seats.

Complimentary Fare Upgrades
  • Platinum members are entitled to four complimentary upgrade sectors per year from a Flexi fare seat to a Premium seat 
  • Fare upgrades can be used when flying domestically on Virgin Australia and when booking in a flexible fare class (fare classes Y, N, B or M). Members can also use a Complimentary Fare Upgrade for a guest travelling with them on the same flight. Subject to availability of a Premium seat

Upgrade Using Points
  • You can use your Velocity Points to upgrade from a Flexi fare seat to a Premium seat on Virgin Australia domestic and short haul international and Virgin Samoa flights
  • You can request an Upgrade Using Points up to 4 hours prior to your flight subject to Premium Reward Seat availablility

Priority Economy Seat Purchase
  • Platinum members are entitled to priority purchase up to two economy seats on any Virgin Australia Domestic or International Long haul flight when the seats they require can not be booked online
  • The request must be made prior to midday the day before travel (within the same time zone as the departure port) and members booking must be in a Flexi fare class
  • Platinum member must be travelling on the booking

Complimentary membership with Secure Sentinel
  • Platinum members are eligible to receive a complimentary 12 month SecureIdentity™ membership with Secure Sentinel. Membership includes an identity theft and loss assistance service to help protect your identity, financial cards, passport and mobile phone
  • To request membership, login to your Velocity account, go to My Benefits and select complimentary membership with Secure Sentinel

Priority Check-in
  • Breeze through Check-in via the priority counters at major domestic airports
  • Priority Check-in through the Business Class counter when travelling on an International Long Haul flight with Virgin Australia
Priority Boarding
  • Board when you like when travelling with Virgin Australia via our exclusive Priority Boarding lanes at selected domestic and international short haul airports, or via dedicated Business Class boarding lanes at all international long haul airports (available at most gates).
Sydney Lounge Premium Entry and Premium Valet
  • Platinum members are able to use the direct kerbside lounge access, optional valet parking, private reception desk and dedicated security screening point at the T2 terminal at Sydney airport
  • Open Monday to Sunday (check-in available when travelling with carry-on baggage only)

  • Complimentary access, plus an additional 3 guests
  • Up to two children aged three to twelve years can accompany you into the lounge

Fly Ahead
  • When arriving at the Virgin Australia lounge, you and any other guests on the same booking may request to Fly Ahead to your destination on an earlier flight
  • Available to guests traveling with hand luggage only and subject to availability

  • Two pieces up to 32kg each when flying with Virgin Australia domestic or short haul international and when flying with Virgin Samoa
  • One free extra piece to the specification of fare class flown when flying to the US with Virgin Australia
  • An additional 20kg to your ticketed allowance when flying to other international long haul destinations with Virgin Australia
Priority Waitlist
  • Platinum members will receive priority when waitlisted for an upcoming Virgin Australia International Long Haul flight

Guaranteed Economy Reward Seats for an annual family trip to any international destination
  • Platinum members are guaranteed four economy return Reward Seats to any domestic or international destination when flying with Virgin Australia or our international airline redemption partners
  • Reward Seats can be redeemed using Points or Points plus Pay (minimum Points redemption applies)
  • Reward Seats must be booked at least 6 months prior to your journey and are only available for one flight booking per year

Companion Gold membership and Platinum membership
  • Platinum members who earn an additional 1,500 Status Credits in their member benefit period can gift Gold membership to a companion of their choice
  • Platinum members who qualify will be contacted by a Velocity consultant to request companion details
  • If Platinum members earn an additional 2,000 Status Credits in their member benefit period, their companion will automatically be upgraded to Platinum membership

Family Pooling (Points and Status Credits)
  • Velocity members may choose to pool Points or Points and Status Credits of family members into one Account
  • There may be a maximum of 6 family members living at the same address involved in a pool including up to four children under the age of 18 and two adults 18 years or over, including the member being pooled to
  • Login to your Account to setup Family Pooling
Membership pause for Parental Leave
  • Members can pause their membership for a period of 6 months when they are expecting an addition to the family and their travelling is likely to be reduced
  • To apply for a membership pause, members must provide documentation of pregnancy, recent or future child birth or adoption of a child in the form of a doctor’s certificate, a birth certificate or an adoption or foster parent registration

*Eligible Sectors will be visible in your account from 25 August 2011, however Velocity will not use them as a part of the assessment method for upgrading or maintaining your membership level until 25 August 2012. An Eligible Sector is a flown journey from an origin to a destination on a Virgin Australia booking (DJ or VA Flight number).
